Tony Charles - Humanistic Integrative Counsellor - MBACP
I am a qualified Humanistic Integrative Counsellor - MBACP
Over the last twenty years, I have been working in various social work / community roles, from adult residential care, therapeutic assessment centers, to my current post, Clinical Practitioner (providing therapeutic consultations to social work units, plus providing family / individual therapy.
I also dedicate a number of evenings per week, seeing clients at MIND (Adult Mental Health Service) and, Face 2 Face (Young Peoples / Adolescents Service, ages 11 - 21 yrs old)..
The private practice has risen out of wealth of experience, I have gained over the years, enabling me to provide you with an individual counselling experience, opening doors to change and understanding.
Humanistic Integrative Counselling combines both humanistic and integrative approaches. Humanistic counselling (such as Person-centered) is a holistic approach that believes in the ability of people to reach their own potential. It facilitates growth of personal awareness through the client's experience within the counselling relationship. Importance is given to a client's thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It focuses on the responsibility of the client, client choices and what is happening for the client in the "Here and Now".
It differs from other therapies in that it focuses on the person as a whole, their personal or internal world, their relationships with others, their environment, and their history etc. It focuses on the client's choices and that with the right environment a person is capable of finding within themselves their own answers. The integrative approach sees every individual as unique, therefore drawing from other approaches (such as Psychodynamic), enabling me to adjust to the needs of the client.
